THABO TONICK

As a child in Kroonstad, in South Africa’s Free State province, Thabo Mosokwene would tap out rhythms on a drawer in his mother’s room, imagining crowds chanting his name. That childhood dream became a calling as he would go on to teach himself how to DJ and produce music as a teenager. Since then, Thabo Tonick has embarked on a musical journey that has shaped him into an artist with a sound and vision of his own.

Deemed The Style Bender, Thabo Tonick creates music that bridges soulful melodies, hypnotic grooves and African rhythmic influences, moving fluidly across genres without being confined by them. Drawing inspiration from artists such as KAYTRANADA, Ravyn Lenae and Sir LSG, Thabo approaches music as an expression of identity and emotion. His track My Blood Is Electronic captures this philosophy, reflecting what he describes as the world that exists in his head.

Recognised as one of the early voices in 3 Step, Thabo Tonick continues to explore the possibilities of electronic music on his own terms. That freedom lies at the heart of Sun God, his debut studio album, released on 23 October 2026. Inspired by Nika, the liberating Sun God from the hit anime One Piece, the project explores self-expression, liberation and the power of joy. This concept carries personal significance for Thabo, as his name means “joy” in Sesotho, reflecting the feeling he seeks to bring through his music and to the people who experience it.

The album’s lead single, Bigger Than Us, has emerged as a standout release, gaining international attention, a place on Spotify’s editorial Deep House Session playlist, and support from respected industry selectors, including Keinemusik’s Adam Port, who gave the track a five-star rating, alongside Vinny Da Vinci, Jullian Gomes, Manoo and Desiree.

Thabo’s artistry has also led to collaborations beyond South Africa, including Flame, a track he worked on with legendary British house producer and DJ, Charles Webster. This collaboration marks another significant connection in Thabo Tonick’s evolving musical journey and brand.
